Standard does not mean correct. It means enough people use it that it became accepted, in a certain use. Each of the quotes you have provided show it NOT being used in the way XS is asking about. Quoting more things that say the thing do not help that you still don't understand what you're quoting.

But we can agree to disagree. "If you have any other questions don't ask Sam or me." Not 'myself'. I bet that still doesn't make sense to you...

I never said it did. You stated that it's not synonymous with correct. But it is. Words like law, rule and specification come to mind as well. "The dictionary is the standard by which a person's grasp of the language is measured."

And I vehemently disagree. I disagree because the dictionary and hundreds of years of written English disagree. I disagree because I just can't bring myself to flush the written word down the toilet simply because people today believe that passing their computer's spell check equates to successful writing.

Ok. You can use myself to incorrectly replace me or I, if you want to.

I planted the garden myself. -Correct
Please speak to George or myself... -Not correct.

As PDR said, take out the other person to see if your sentence is correct...
Please speak to myself... nope.
Please speak to me... yup.

I'm done now.

So response. LOL. They said basically, we've been telling you all for years to utilize and manage your pto wisely. Not our fault.

It's not so much hoarding a it is wise planning. Should something occur with one of my kids, myself or my wife I have a few weeks built up. Should I want to take a two week vacation one year, it's very easy without being stressed on if I have enough pto. We only had a 30 day carry over policy. It's nothing excessive by any stretch.

Have they sent out reminders and things about PTO in the past?

Not accusing, just asking...

I will have 18 working days by the end of the year. Some employees have the full 30, which if broken down is a good month and a half. I don't even consider that excessive if it's what the company policy has been for years.

Have they sent out reminders and things about PTO in the past?

Not accusing, just asking...

Not sure what you mean by this questions. We get a spreadsheet every month of our current pto days. But it's just a formulated sheet, nothing more.

They have said things in the past along the lines of, we know you all work hard so feel free to take off when you need, etc. Nothing has ever been hinted at that they would be changing the policy.

Again, it's not the change in policy that's upsetting. Policies change, and that's completely fair, the issue at hand is giving only 3.5 months at the end of the year to burn up vacation time that has been accrued over the years.

He's been with us for 4 years, so just 7.5 days a year. It's not that hard to do really. They also are supposed to give compensation time when you work all week and travel on the weekends. Sassy has only been with us for 2 years and almost had 30 days before our trip.

Wondered what he meant by that?

I agree 3 months to use what you got is pretty short notice.  Typically you would see a company do that type of policy change at the end of the year, or the end of their fiscal year.   Sucks, but I'm not sure I would want to be the one making a big stink about it.  I think you've said your piece and should prob let someone take it from here.

I waste a lot of PTO time throughout the year to avoid rolling over too much.  I earn 8 hours per pay period, so roughly 21-23 full days I believe with holidays and such in there.

I'd put exactly what was said in the email, word for word, but they put a disclaimer at the top saying not to forward the email on to anyone externally or internally. Makes you kind of think as well with that attached......Remember, we have like 20 something employees, we're not some large firm.

I get 120hrs PTO, 12 Company Paid Holidays, and 3 Personal Choice Holidays a year. Sick time does not come out of PTO and I believe we can carry over 40hrs with Management approval.

And that's reasonable. Heck I don't have a problem with the policy changing even. Does it suck, yea but that isn't really the issue. The issue is making it retro active and not giving enough time for everyone to use it up. It's the holiday season and we can't just be out. We have to have other's back fill our positions, it's frankly not going to be possible with 20 employees at different client sites. On top of that, our technology experience and aptitude ranges so wide that only certain people can cover certain spots, while others can't cover anything. I can't have a sales guy covering my position. Sassy can't have a tier one tech cover his spot on a project while hes out.

I'm not in any way disagreeing with you on what is happening is kind of shitty. I've been on the other end when I worked for the City of Richardson, they allowed you to carry over as much time as you wanted. I had a guy that had been there for 25 years and only took one or two days a year off. When we went to 12 hour shifts, he ended up taking his 3, 12 hour days off every week for about 4 months. It sucked because I had to cover him every time.

The way your company is handling this is situation is pretty poor, they should make it effective starting Jan 1 and give everyone until Dec 31 2015 to burn off all the extra time. It sucks they are handling the way they are but they will do what's best for the company, not the employee.

Agreed and I think that is a very fair and reasonable solution. And yes, it sucks but they will do what is best for the company. But if they continue down this path, they could jeopardize a lot of talent which wouldn't be the best thing for the company. Is this going to be the tipping point for anyone....probably not, but it very well could be. It definitely puts everyone on high alert and ready to jump at the next possible down turn. Most of the employees that have built up days have been with this company through some tough times (selling to an off shore company, decreasing in size dramatically, restructuring negatively of the bonus structure-which has now become much better). I don't see this being the final straw for many, but it may be for some.

I'm not worried about getting fired for a family emergency. Having that built up pto and being able to use it during an emergency is what I was referring to as I still collect a pay check.
