In the past, I was running similar times as the guy who won. He took a year or so off of running and he's been training for almost a year. With a year of training under me, I have no doubt I could be in the 15's for 5k.

Nice! I did, er, ten last week. I started off with a quick five this morning though so hopefully I can not give up halfway through the week like I usually do. It's been so nice not dying of heat exhaustion in the mornings though.

nice. i'm running the 8mile turkey trot my family does every year. i did it in 1:00:02 last year with no training or intention of doing it quickly... i'm hoping to average at least a 7min mile this time around. better fitness and i'm running a little bit, should be do-able.

keep it up!

outside. drizzling.

i was flying the first two miles, mellowed out a little bit and then kicked it back up in the last two.
my cycling coach is helping me out as far as my goal for 8 miles... saturday i'll basically try to do the opposite of what i did: run the first 2 at a normal fast pace, run the second 2 at and unrealistically fast pace and survive at my best pace in the last 2.

i can't really be running the rest of the year, it slows you down on the bike, so i'm just doing what i can right now for fun.

If you can run that for 6miles, you could race a 5k and win some money or prizes.

well...there's a 5k cross country race this saturday i could give a shot. it's put on by an oregon running club that i think is pretty fast.

it'd be fun though
http://www.teamredlizard.com/xc/

the kid who won the 8 mile turkey trot last year did it in 38minutes by the way.... i'm pretty far from winning THAT.

This last race I ran I won my age group and I placed 12th overall. I won a gift certificate to a running store and a nice $40 shirt.

Although, I did get beat by like 4 guys under 20.

Yeah, if I go out early enough I see plenty of people running through the neighborhood and whatnot but I'm always the youngest out there.

I did 5 miles at eight minutes/mile today and I was happy. Yay me.

Just a question outside of running for Ayo. How do cyclists financially support themselves. Does your team / sponsor support you 100% or you have to self support? Just curious since you're on your off season.

i have a real job... at a company that manufactures performance bike parts.
getting on a team that will financially support you is pretty hard. cycling is definitely not something that will ever really "pay back" financially.
at the peak of my cycling career i'll probably be making the least amount of money in my life, just part of the sacrifices you've got to make.
the team i'm on now just helps you get by... we get free bikes and majority of our races paid for.

i did that 8 mile race last thursday. i lifted weights on tuesday.. and there was a pretty heavy wind during the race.
i dunno if i could've gotten down to 49 minutes either way, but i did 54 and think i could've done a little better.
still, 6 minutes off the time i did it last year is pretty cool. i'll do it in at least 49 next year.... and i won't be in the 20-24 category anymore, which had the top 13 overall runners, mostly college runners. i ended up #201 out of 3,625 people. hah. 31st out of 186 in my age group.

i look huge for some reason

sweet winter gear people

annnnnnnnd now i don't run again until next november. biggrin.gif
