Now that the weather is nice, I've started running again. Before 2 weeks ago, I had not ran in roughly 6-8 months. I simply was burnt out on it.

I ran a few times over the last few weeks and I got poison ivy BAD so I took a week off. As of Monday of this week, I'm running every day.

My goals are to get back in shape to win some 5k/10k's around here. I've never been able to actually win money/prizes (NCAA rules) so I'd like to start winning some things for running.

I REFUSE to run a 5k until I am positive I can run sub-18min, though. If I run a 5k and run above 18min, it will greatly discourage me.

So this will be my daily log, since I have no where else to put it.

Monday - ~3miles easy at about 7:10min/mile pace.

Tuesday - ~6miles in about 42min. Last mile was in 6:30.

That's cool i only ran cc and track through high school, but was always a 400/800m runner. I'm actually about to start training for a 5k as well, but I don't think I'll get anywhere near sub 18 minutes. As far as your training goes, what are your long runs going to get up to?

Just ran over 3miles @ 6min pace.

Long runs will eventually get to 12-15miles or so. Starting out, they will be 8miles and gradually go up from there. I ran anything from the 400m and up in HS. Where did you go to HS?

I went to high school in Azle/North Fort Worth. We are the same age so we may have ran against one another in a district/regionals meet.

Was supposed to be an 8mile run today, but I felt like absolute shit. My calves are sore as hell and my breathing was all off.

Ended up being 4.5miles in 32:26.

26.5miles for the week. Not too bad being my first serious week back.

5miles tonight in 32min. Ran half of the mileage with a former team mate that just ran a 15:47 5k on a tough course this past weekend. Talked with him and I'll be running more with him soon.

I should have a rough training schedule for the next month or so soon. Once I do, I'll post it up.

Oh, and I bought some new shoes yesterday. I love some road racing flats. smile.gif 5.4oz.

Not sure why you would use flats for the kind of running you are doing.

The fact that you still love them after 3 blisters on your first time out is confusing.

Actually, I bought some Asics 2150's the same day as I bought the flats. The Asics are the ones that gave me the blisters, not the flats.

I've always been a "lightweight trainer" shoe kinda guy. Pretty much all of my training shoes are lightweight and don't have a ton of stability control because I don't really need it.

It makes sense if thats what you are accustomed to.

I loved mine on the track surface but they always killed my outer arch on concrete.

Did you have high heal blisters with the Asics? The last pair I had did that to me. It was strange because they were just another pair of a previous model I had good luck with.

I haven't bought new Asics in almost 2 years, but the 2150's are the newest ones of the line that I always wore.

I have a blister on each heel on the inside edge of the heel. Weird spots to have blisters.

I've ran a couple of the 6mile runs lately in my Nike's (lightweight road race shoes) with no blisters or pain. dunno.gif

So how is all this running going to affect your knees when you're an old man? Good because you're using them or bad because of so much impact?
